Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Tim Southee has heaped praise on teammate for his performance in IPL 2022.

Umesh Yadav has been on song for the two-time winners during the league so far, especially in the powerplay overs.

The 34-year-old has taken 10 wickets and is currently second in the race for the Purple Cap. In the IPL mega auction, he went unsold but was roped in by KKR in the second round for his base price of ₹2 crore.

“I am a fan of Umesh Yadav as he is a tremendous bowler. I shared a new ball with him when we both played at RCB. If he keeps performing, I cannot see why he would not do well for India in T20 cricket.”

The KKR management has played a key role in his success as they have handed him the new ball. The pacer has been one of the most impactful bowlers in the powerplay.

Sticking to good line and length, he has dismissed seven batters in the powerplay overs.

Crediting KKR coaching staff and skipper Shreyas Iyer for getting the best out of Yadav, Southee said: “The way KKR has used him has been outstanding. Credit goes to Brendon (McCullum) and (captain) Shreyas (Iyer).”
