In a major development, Hardik Pandya pulled out of his third over the innings due to a suspected groin injury, giving nervy moments to the team management and fans of the franchise.
Earlier, he scored 87 off 52 balls, which was one of the longest IPL innings of his career in terms of time. He also took one wicket before the injury forced him to take a break from the bowling duties.
The 28-year-old has been battling fitness issues for more than a year and made a comeback through IPL 2022 after spending considerable time on the sideline.
When asked about his injury at the post-match presentation ceremony, he did not say much but looked uncomfortable. Former India cricketers Irfan Pathan and Aakash Chopra opined on his injury. “It is not looking good and we could see him stay away from bowling in the upcoming matches,” said Aakash.
“Injury is not good for Hardik as he came back after a long time. Sure, there is an issue, and groin injuries take time to heal,’ said Irfan Pathan.
