Virat and Rohit crictoday
Kevin Pietersen shared his view on why Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have failed in IPL 2022.

Two of India’s superstar batters, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, have been the pillars of the national team for several years. Besides showcasing their immense talent and character for Team India, the two have also achieved a lot of success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years.

Rohit has been a force to be reckoned with, especially as a captain, winning the prestigious trophy on five occasions with Mumbai Indians. He had also won a trophy with Deccan Chargers earlier as a player.

As far as Kohli is concerned, the 2016 Orange Cap winner has achieved tremendous success as a batter purely. His consistency has been an example. However, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper didn’t manage to win the trophy, leading them to a final in 2016. He stepped down as RCB skipper after IPL 2021.

Notably, Kohli stepped down as captain of India’s T20I and Test teams, besides being sacked as the ODI skipper. Rohit took over as an all-format skipper for India.

The IPL 2022 season has already kicked off, and both these players have done a decent job. It will be a crucial season ahead for the two as they aim to bring success to their respective clubs. Their runs will be immense, and there are major feats the two can achieve as the season progresses. Here we decode the records these two batters can smash this season.

6,000-run mark for Rohit

Rohit is currently the third-highest scorer in the IPL. He has piled up a total of 5,652 runs in the IPL at an average of 31.22. Rohit needs 348 runs more to reach a milestone of 6,000 IPL runs. Alongside Shikhar Dhawan, the veteran Indian star can join Kohli in terms of 6,000-plus runs. Rohit scored 41 runs in the opening match for MI against Delhi Capitals.

6,500-run mark for Kohli

The 33-year-old Kohli has smacked 6,336 runs in the IPL at 37.49. He is the leading scorer in the cash-rich league. Notably, Kohli can become the first player in IPL history to smash 6,500 runs. He needs 164 more runs to achieve this mark. In the IPL 2022 season, Kohli has managed scores of 41* and 12 so far from two games.

4s and 6s

Kohli has smashed 549 fours in the IPL so far. He has the second-highest number of fours in the IPL after Shikhar Dhawan (659). Kohli, who hit 43 fours in IPL 2021, will look to better the tally. He can get to 600 fours and become just the second player after Dhawan to achieve this mark. He needs 51 fours more.

Meanwhile, Rohit has smashed 495 fours and needs five more to slam a tally of 500. He can become just the fifth player to smash 500-plus fours. He can also surpass Suresh Raina’s mark (506). Rohit has hit 229 sixes and needs 21 more to become just the third cricketer to hit 250-plus sixes. He can surpass AB de Villiers (251).

100 catches in the IPL

Rohit has the third-highest number of catches in the IPL (91) as an outfielder after Raina (109) and Kieron Pollard (96). He needs nine more to get to 100 IPL catches. Meanwhile, Kohli (85) can surpass AB de Villiers’ tally of 90 catches in the premier tournament.

Most fifty-plus scores

Kohli has 47 50-plus scores in the IPL. He has 42 fifties and five centuries. Kohli needs three more fifty-plus scores to register a mark of 50. Only David Warner has more 50-plus scores (54). Kohli needs two centuries to surpass Universe Boss Chris Gayle (6) in terms of centuries in the IPL. Rohit is tied with ABD in terms of fifties (40) and is set to steer clear.

Rohit can slam these records for MI

Former Chargers batter Rohit is the highest scorer for MI in the IPL. He has amassed 4,482 runs and is 18 shy of the 4,500-run mark. He is set to be the first MI batter to achieve this mark. Rohit is one shy of 400 fours in the IPL for MI (399) and needs 22 maximums to hammer 200 sixes (178). He will be the first to achieve both milestones. Rohit (169) needs six more games to become only the second MI player with 175 or more matches after Pollard.

Notable records the two can script versus teams

Kohli is the highest scorer versus CSK in the IPL. He has 948 runs at 41.21. He is 52 shy of becoming the first player to smash 1,000 runs against CSK. Kohli and Rohit are the only two batters to hammer 900-plus runs versus DC. Kohli needs 87 runs versus DC in RCB’s only game against them to register 1,000 runs. Rohit, who smashed 41 versus DC, will get another shot. He needs 90 runs.
