Suresh Raina was magnificent for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He played a key role in the team’s success over the years. For the record, the MS Dhoni-led team has won four IPL so far.
However, they were below the mark and finished 9th in IPL 2022. Former India head coach and one of the leading commentators, Ravi Shastri, feels CSK were doing well because of Raina, who was not retained ahead of the 15th season.
The southpaw went unsold in the mega auction. Shastri also said that the Chennai-based franchise needs a new Suresh Raina to win the IPL titles.
“CSK have been doing well for several years but often tend to forget Suresh Raina’s contribution. He used to provide stability by scoring consistently while batting at No.3, making it easier for the other batters. They need someone like him to win IPL titles.”
In 176 matches for the Yellow Army, Raina scored 4687 runs at an average of 32.32 and a strike rate of 136.88. He hit 1 hundred, 33 fifties, 425 fours, and 180 sixes as well.
