The Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost four games in a row in the Indian Premier League 2022 but remain in contention for a spot in the knockout stage. The SRH started the season with two consecutive defeats but went on to win five successive games before losing form. With three games remaining for the Orange Army, Kane Williamson and his men will look to end their winless streak and would be expecting better performances from Umran Malik.

The 22-year-old speedster has been one of the finds of the season and has bowled the fastest delivery in the league (157 kmph). He also took his maiden five-wicket haul in the tournament this season. Many former cricketers want Umran to be included in India’s limited-overs squad and be considered for the T20 World Cup in Australia.

During a discussion on ESPNCricinfo, former India batter Aakash Chopra said Umran is not yet ready to play for the country. However, his statement met with disagreement from West Indies’ Ian Bishop and former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori.

“Umran Malik is not yet ready to play for India. I think he is still raw. There will be a time he plays for the country, but he is not ready based on the last few games,’ said Aakash.

Bishop said that Malik should be in the Indian team even if he doesn’t play a game, as rubbing shoulders with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami would make him learn new things. Vettori agreed with the former Windies pacer.
