The India vs England T20I series is scheduled to start on the 22nd of January. In recent times, India and England have both adopted a change in their regular playing styles. England is known for having a lot of all-rounders in their white-ball teams. This gives the English teams a lot of batting depth at the cost of some bowling prowess. As a result, their bowlers give away a few extra runs, but the batters chase it down, or score even more. A formula that worked for them over some time, even winning them the 2022 World Cup, where an all-rounder of Woakes capability was slotted to bat at number 9.
India, on the other hand, has a rather different style. 6 batters, an all-rounder at 7, and 4 bowlers has been the usual combination for them. However, ever since the arrival of Gautam Gambhir, the coach, India has tried to have a lot of all-rounders in their side, strengthening their batting lineups.
Now, for the 1st T20I in Kolkata, both India and England have changed their styles. England has gone for a lot more specialist bowlers – Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, and Mark Wood. India on the other hand will have either Washington Sundar or Nitish Reddy coming in to bat at no. 8. India will have Hardik, Axar, and Washington/Nitish as pure all-rounders in their squad. A major shift from their previous approach.
It will be interesting to watch whose change of approach will get the results in the 1st T20I of the India vs England series. Watch this video to understand better.
