Has Shahid Afridi demanded that Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi be dropped from the team for two years? It certainly seems that way. In our previous video, we told you that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) fined its players 5 million rupees for being knocked out of the T20 World Cup.
Now, Afridi has reacted angrily to this fine. He called the PCB’s decision narrow-minded. Shahid Afridi said:
“This decision is beyond understanding. It is small thinking. What will 5 million rupees achieve? This is not a real punishment. Those who perform poorly should be sent back to first-class cricket, and some players should be dropped from the team for two years. Those who need rest should be given rest. Make changes in the squad — that itself is a sufficient punishment.”
As soon as this statement came out, people assumed that Afridi was probably hinting at Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi. And why wouldn’t they think so? A few days earlier, after Pakistan’s defeat to India in the T20 World Cup, Afridi had said that if team selection were in his hands, he would have dropped Shaheen, Babar, and Shadab and given opportunities to new players instead.
“What’s wrong with giving the youngsters sitting on the bench a chance? When seniors are not delivering, junior players should be tried.”
However, he later softened his stance, saying that he only made those remarks to motivate Babar and Shaheen by provoking them so they would perform better. But as they say, a hint is enough for the wise.
