Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan had a below-par ICC World Cup 2023. The veteran cricketer has revealed that he played with a blurred vision throughout the global tournament. His vision was impacted by stress-related issues.
In 7 matches, he scored 186 runs at an average of 26.57. Shakib also retuned to Bangladesh mid-way to practice with his childhood coach. He was found wanting against the short-pitched deliveries.
As quoted by Cricbuzz, the all-rounder said that he experienced blurred vision in one side of his left eye.
“It was not in one of two games but I had to face it throughout the World Cup,” Shakib said.
“It happened,” he said when asked if he was batting with one eye and was not sure about the line and length of the ball. “I was in discomfort while facing the ball,” he added.
“I paid a visit to one of the doctors as there was water in my cornea or retina. I was given drops and told to lower my stress. I am not sure if that was the reason behind my eye problem. I got my eye checked in America after the World Cup as there was no stress.”
Shakib refused to blame captaincy for his stress, but claimed that it would have been nice if was given the leadership role in advance.
“I don’t want to make any excuse for my stress but things would have been fine had I got the captaincy in advance. The team was not ready to play according to my philosophy.”
Bangladesh became the first team to be eliminated from the 2023 World Cup, following six consecutive defeats. They managed to beat Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
Shakib has entered politics but is not ready to quit cricket. “I can manage cricket and politics. I don’t think there will be any issue between me and the Bangladesh Cricket Board.”
