Michael Edward Killeen Hussey is an Australian cricket coach, commentator and former international cricketer, who played all forms of the game. Hussey is also widely known by his nickname ‘Mr Cricket’. Hussey was a relative latecomer to both the Australian one-day international and Test teams, debuting at 28 and 30 years of age in the respective formats, with 15,313 first-class runs before making his Test debut.

With his time representing Australia, Hussey won multiple ICC titles with the team: the 2007 Cricket World Cup, the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy, and the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy.

  • He scored two triple centuries in first-class cricket for Northamptonshire. He was the fastest player to reach 1000 runs in international cricket in terms of days taken (166 days). He was part of the Australian team that achieved a 5-0 Ashes whitewash in 2006-07. He played a crucial innings in the 2010 World Twenty20 semi-final against Pakistan, hitting 60* off 24 balls to secure a win. He was the second player to score a century in the IPL.

His BBL record is equally commendable, with 776 runs in 27 matches at an average of 35.27, including 7 half-centuries and a highest score of 96, maintaining a brisk strike rate of 131.52. In the Champions League T20 (CLT20), he scored 540 runs in 17 innings at 36.00 average, while in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for Saint Lucia Kings, he added 165 runs in 8 innings.

Notably, in England’s Vitality Blast, he delivered an outstanding average of 54.33 with 326 runs in just 7 games. While he hasn’t bowled in any of these tournaments, his fielding has been sharp with a total of 56 catches across all formats. His consistency, adaptability, and ability to anchor or accelerate make him a valuable asset in the T20 format.
