Denagamage Proboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene is a celebrated former Sri Lankan cricketer and captain, renowned for his elegant and technically sound right-handed batting. He is Sri Lanka’s most capped Test player and has scored the most Test runs for the nation. A strategic captain, he led Sri Lanka to the final of the 2007 Cricket World Cup and was instrumental in their victory at the 2014 ICC World Twenty20. Post-retirement, he has transitioned successfully into coaching, currently serving as the head coach of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, leading them to multiple titles.

In 149 Tests, he amassed 11,814 runs at a superb average of 49.84, including 34 centuries and a monumental highest score of 374, placing him among the highest individual scorers in Test history.
In ODIs, he played 448 matches, scoring 12,650 runs with 19 hundreds and 77 fifties, and was instrumental in Sri Lanka’s rise as a dominant force in limited-overs cricket.
A versatile T20 player, Jayawardene contributed 1,493 runs in T20Is and over 5,400 runs in domestic T20s, including impressive stints in the IPL, BBL, CPL, and Vitality Blast. Known for his sharp cricketing mind, he also captained Sri Lanka with distinction and took 205 catches in Tests and 218 in ODIs, reflecting his brilliance in the slips.
Though an occasional bowler, his primary value always lay with the bat and leadership. Post-retirement, Jayawardene transitioned seamlessly into coaching, continuing to shape global cricket, notably with the Mumbai Indians and Sri Lanka’s national setup.
