Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), formed in 2021, made its debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. Sanjeev Goenka is the principal owner of the franchise. RPSG Group, who previously owned the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise, owns the team.
Krunal Pandya is the captain of Lucknow Super Giants in the absence of KL Rahul, while former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower is the head coach. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir is the team mentor. Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, the franchise picked Rahul as their captain for ₹17 crore. The franchise also bought Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi.
LSG made an impressive IPL debut, reaching the playoffs in the 2022 season. They met Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Eliminator, which they lost by 14 runs as Rajat Patidar struck an unbeaten 112 off 54 balls.
