Rohit Sharma has announced retirement from Test cricket. He has taken a decision to avoid sacking as captain from the longest format of the game. The national selectors had decided to drop and sack the veteran before the five-match Test series in England. He has been failing in Test matches for a long time and the series against New Zealand and Australia sealed his fate. While the Kiwis thumped the sub-continent team 3-0 in India, Australia registered a 3-1 win over the Asian rivals in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

“Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format,” Rohit wrote on social media.

Rohit, who was unavailable for the first Test in Perth, played in the second contests. After posting low scores in three games, he dropped himself from the fifth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He had refused to retire and wanted to lead the side against the Ben Stokes-led unit. His case become stronger when India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but the Ajit Agarkar-led panel was not in favour of Rohit captaining the national team and informed the BCCI about their decision.
