Former Australia cricketer and current head coach of Delhi Capitals, Ricky Ponting has heaped praise on the Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma ahead of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. Ponting, who had passed MI’s captaincy baton to the swashbuckling Indian opener in 2013, described Hitman as one of the “premier” T20 batsmen in the world.
Calling him a “dangerman”, the 45-year-old legendary batsman said that Rohit has always performed exceptionally well with the bat, be it in international cricket or the cash-rich league.
Rohit Sharma is “Mumbai Indians’ dangerman for the season. One of the premier T20 batsmen in the world. He has got an outstanding record whether it be international cricket or in IPL,” Ponting told cricket.com.au.
Pretty hard to go past Rohit Sharma – Ponting
Rohit Sharma-led side is gearing up to take on MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the opening match of IPL 2020 on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.
The two-time World Cup-winning captain, Ponting believes that the 33-year-old star batsman is in his career-best form at the moment and it will be a challenging task to bowl against him in the upcoming tournament.
“He’s probably in his career-best form right now, it’s pretty hard to go past him.”
Rohit Sharma has played 188 IPL games so far and notched up 4898 runs including one century and 36 fifties.
