A BCCI official, speaking with Indian Express, confirmed the news of KL Rahul’s new role and remarked, “BCCI has appointed KL Rahul as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the remainder of the World Cup. Chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, who is travelling with the side informed Rahul about the decision on Saturday morning.”

The other name considered for the role other than KL Rahul was Jasprit Bumrah. However, due to Rahul’s better understanding of the game as a keeper, he was given a nod ahead of Bumrah.

Talking about Hardik, he sprained his ankle against Bangladesh while bowling and was ruled out for a few games. He was expected to make a comeback in the knock-out stages, but will now miss the remainder of the matches.
