Shaheen Afridi was given just one T20I series to prove himself as a captain. The defeat against New Zealand led to his sacking, with Babar Azam making a return as the skipper in white-ball cricket. Former wicket-keeper Moin Khan thinks it was not the right call to remove Shaheen from the leadership role.

The 52-year-old mentioned that speedster is the best choice to become Pakistan’s leader in the shortest format of the game.

Moin highlighted that Shaheen’s performances have gone down since his removal.

“Shaheen can lead Pakistan, and his teammates like him. He is a good choice for captaincy in T20 format. There is no one better than him in white-ball cricket at the moment. He is the only deserving captaincy candidate, and his removal was unjust. He is one of the best players in T20 cricket, and his performances have gone down since he was shown the door as a captain,” Moin Khan told Cricket Pakistan.

Moin also urged the PCB to appoint a skipper on a long-term basis and hinted at wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan.

“A single player should lead Pakistan across formats, but for that, he needs to be consistent across formats. Whoever is given a chance should be given the responsibility for a long time. Mohammad Rizwan has abilities, and his only criticism might be due to his age,” he added.

“India should come to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025′: Moin Khan

Moin Khan said that India should come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, and the BCCI should keep politics out of cricket.

“Former India players should suggest the BCCI to send the team to Pakistan and keep politics out of cricket. The matches between India and Pakistan will benefit the sport. If India refuses, Pakistan shouldn’t participate in the ICC tournaments in India.”

The Champions Trophy 2025 will be played in February.
