Faf du Plessis has come out in support of his Quetta Gladiators’ teammate, Azam Khan, saying “you don’t need to have a six-pack to be successful”. Azam has been the talk of the town after receiving his maiden Pakistan call-up for the upcoming T20Is against England and West Indies, respectively.
A hard-hitting batsman, Azam has been a vital cog for the Quetta Gladiators. However, his selection in the Pakistan national team hasn’t gone down well with many. With Azam Khan being the son of former Pakistan skipper Moin Khan, many have ignited the nepotism debate.
Moreover, many have raised questions about his fitness as he weighs over 100 kilograms, despite shredding a lot of fat recently. Speaking on the matter, former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis came out in support of the 22-year-old.
“Azam Khan is a good hitter. I haven’t seen much of him since I have just played a couple of games. I think he got that one fifty there towards the end of the competition,” du Plessis told Cricket Pakistan.
“He has definitely got a lot of power, and he takes the ball on. It will be interesting to keep an eye on him to see what he does in this last leg of the tournament. He will be very driven to do well in this last leg,” he added.
PSL 2021 is set to resume on June 9 after it was postponed earlier this year due to COVID-19. With the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Quetta languishing at the bottom of the table, du Plessis and Azam would be determined to take the team to glory.
