Virat Kohli’s sacking as ODI captain has not gone down well with the 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal. Rohit Sharma recently replaced Kohli as ODI skipper. Kohli, who left the T20I captaincy after the ICC T20 World, had expressed the desire to stay as a captain of the ODI team.
He still remains the Test captain. “I don’t know what the selectors think about this, but if Kohli is producing the right results then why change him?” Because there is so much cricket, I understand T20s. He can focus on two formats. Madan Lal said that if you’re successful and are removed, it would, of course, pinch you.” Madan Lal spoke to the media on Thursday midday. “I thought Kohli would have been able to stay [as captain] until the 2023 World Cup. He said it is challenging to build a team but much easier to destroy.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had justified Virat’s removal by the Chetan Sharma-led national selection committee.
“I don’t know anything about confusion, but that’s what they [selectors] felt.” Ganguly explained to PTI that Rohit was allowed to captain white-ball and Virat red-ball skipper.
