The Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) will be played from the following year, and Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy has stated that the league’s announcement is great for cricket.
The Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) has been running successfully over the years, and Healy opined that the women’s IPL is a much-needed step.
“I think the announcement is good for cricket. It’s where we thought that the women’s game needed to go. WBBL is already running successfully, and now we have the Hundred. The starting of the IPL will grow the game in India,” said Healy in the post-match press conference after the match between Australia and West Indies.
Healy said that the league would make the Indian women’s team unbeatable in another decade.
“India is an uncapped market, I feel in the women’s game. With so many people, surely they are going to be unbeatable in sort of a 10-year time. They needed a league of that magnititude to take the game forward in India,” concluded Alyssa Healy.
