Kapil Dev, the skipper, led from the front and scored 175 to bail his team out from 17/5.

83, the most anticipated movie of the year, has hit the theatres on December 24 (Friday). Fans are liking the movie and have lauded director Kabir Khan and the actors in the film. Team India were underdogs but went on to win the World Cup in 1983.

Defying all the odds, India defeated the mighty West Indies twice in three matches, including the final to lift the trophy. Having won two and lost as many, India stood on the brink of elimination. They were up against Zimbabwe in their fifth game of the tournament.

Kapil Dev, the skipper, led from the front and scored 175 off 138 balls to bail his team out from 17/5.  He smashed 16 fours and six sixes during his knock. However, the match was not recorded because the sole broadcasters BBC, didn’t cover three matches in a day. Also, the match was of no importance considering India’s performance in the previous matches. Even Australia and West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka matches didn’t come on TV. The game between England and Pakistan was shown on TV.

However, Kapil Dev has no regrets that his then world record knock wasn’t shown on TV.

“No regret in life. Aap sabne itna pyaar mohabbat diya. Aur yeh jo picture ban rahi hai, regret kis baat ka? (All of you have given so much love, and this movie has got made. So what’s there to regret?) Nahi record kiya toh nahi kiya,” Kapil said while speaking to Zee News.
