The Indian pacer feels that Shikhar will be the ideal choice to captain the side during the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, owing to his experience in the white-ball cricket.
The skipper for upcoming Sri Lanka tour has become a huge topic of discussion as the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin are currently gearing up for the all-important World Test Championship (WTC) final and five-match Test series against England.
In the absence of several key players, swashbuckling Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, all-rounder Hardik Pandya and experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar have emerged as the contenders for the leadership role.
Speaking to Times of India, Deepak said, “Shikhar bhai will be a good choice (for captain). He has been playing for a long time and has a lot of experience. For me, a senior person should become a captain. Because players see him as a senior and respect him and obey him with honesty. Players should respect their captain. Dhawan will be a good choice.”
India will lock horns with Sri Lanka in 3 ODIs and as many T20 Internationals.
Notably, both Deepak Chahar and Shikhar Dhawan were last seen in action during the 14th edition of Indian Premier League before the tournament was postponed.
