Joe Root has stepped down from Test captaincy with immediate effect. He led the team in 64 Test matches and won 27 of them. The defeat in the Ashes and West Indies put him under tremendous pressure.

The former cricketers Lalchand Rajput and Nikhil Chopra opined on Root’s captaincy.

Rajput felt Root took England to new heights, and he is a role model for many players. He added that pressure was on him as the team was not performing under his leadership.

“As Virat Kohli has done for India, Root has done the same for England’s Test team. He scored a hundred in India on the turning pitches. He batted well in Australia, South Africa and West Indies,” said Rajput on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket Show’ on CricTracker.

“But a bad phase arrives in every cricketer’s career, and this phase has arrived now in Root’s career. When the team does not win, the pressure falls on the captain, he added.

Chopra hailed Joe Root as a batter and agreed with Rajput’s point of view on the England player scoring runs in every country in Whites.
