Former India cricketer Suresh Raina has drawn flak on social media over his latest comment, mentioning his Brahmin caste.
Raina, who has been playing for the Chennai Super Kings since the inception of the IPL in 2008, made the controversial comment during the opening match of Tamil Nadu Premier League between Lyca Kovai Kings and Salem Spartans.
The 34-year-old was asked by the commentators about his long relationship with Chennai and he said, “ I am also Brahmin. I have been playing since 2004 in Chennai, I love the culture… I love my CSK teammates.
“I have played with Anirudha Srikanth, Badri (Subramaniam Badrinath), Bala Bhai (L Balaji). You always learn something good there. We have a good administration, we have the license to explore ourselves. I’m lucky to be part of CSK. Hopefully, we will play more matches there,” Raina added.
However, netizens weren’t impressed with Raina’s on-air comments as they slammed the CSK stalwart for flaunting his caste pride.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Suresh Raina was last seen in action during the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League before it was called off due to multiple COVID-19 cases inside the bio-bubble.
In the first of IPL 2021, he scored 123 runs from 7 games at an average of 24.60 and a strike rate of 126.80.
Notably, Raina made a comeback to the CSK squad this year after he had pulled of the IPL 2020, citing personal reasons.
