Indian spinner R Ashwin has opined on Virat Kohli’s stint as a Test captain. The 33-year old stepped down from captaincy in the longest format of the game after losing Test series to South Africa. From being India’s captain across formats to becoming a specialist middle-order batter, Kohli has seen all in a span of few months.

Kohli has been receiving congratulatory messages from current and former greats of the game.

In a series of three tweets, Ashwin talked about the headache Virat has left for his successor. “Well done @imVkohli on the headache you have left behind for your successor and that’s my biggest takeaway from your stint as captain,” wrote Ashwin.

The off-spinner has played 233 out of his 246 international matches across formats with Kohli also in the Playing XI. The 35-year old was a part of 79 matches across formats under his captaincy. Ashwin took 293 wickets in 55 Tests at an average of 22.13 under the most successful Indian Test captain. Three out of Ashwin’s five Test centuries have also come under Kohli’s tenure as a skipper.
