The ICC World Cup 2023 begins in a week in India. Five of the nine teams, minus the hosts, have arrived in India, while the rest are expected to land today or tomorrow. The experts have touted India as the favourites to clinch the titles, but England’s Test skipper Ben Stokes feels that the Three Lions are well capable of defending the title.
England won their first fifty-over World Cup in 2019 when they beat New Zealand in what was one of the best World Cup finals. Stokes, who made a surprise return to the ODI side recently, remarked that they have a very good side and can become the third side after West Indies and Australia to defend their title.

“I do not think I am being arrogant, but we are a good side and can defend the title. We have an edge over the other sides as we have the experience of playing huge games. T20 cricket has expanded at a rapid rate, but it is not close to wearing your country’s jersey and billions watching you.”
Notably, Stokes retired from ODI cricket last year but returned to the team for the ICC World Cup 2023 and recently smashed 182 off 124 against New Zealand in the recently concluded bilateral series.
