Wasim Akram was straightforward while doing commentary in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022. Even before and after the game, he gave blunt answers. He had harmless banter with fellow commentators and sometimes with Mayanti Langer.
She has to deal with the pointed replies of one of the greatest bowlers of all-time. She was again in the limelight during the Asia Cup 2022 final between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and the reason was Akram’s reply.
Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 23 runs to lift their sixth Asia Cup title. She asked a simple question about Sri Lanka’s performance in the Asia Cup, but Akram gave a pointed answer.
“Wasim, I can understand the thoughts going through your mind, but a team that was written off had a dream run to win the title,” said Mayanti.
“Nothing is going through my head,” Akram interrupted Mayanti. Sri Lanka deserved to win because of the way they played today, the way they played against Pakistan in the previous game. I have a problem with Pakistan’s intent,” he said.
