He said the one who didn't have the opportunity would definitely get a long run in the future.

Hardik Pandya has achieved a lot of success as a captain. It started with the Indian Premier League 2022, where he led Gujarat Titans to the title. Since then, he has tasted success with Team India as well.

The all-rounder is India’s skipper in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand after Rohit Sharma was rested. India are due to play three T20Is, and Hardik is the front-runner to replace Rohit as a captain in the shortest format.

VVS Laxman has also travelled with the Men in Blue as a coach after the BCCI decided to rest him after a hectic schedule. The stand-in coach Laxman lauded Hardik for his captaincy and listed four big qualities of him.

“Hardik is a fabulous leader. We have seen what he has achieved in IPL. I have spent time with him from Ireland. His presence and work ethic are good. He is a players’ captain and is very approachable. Players have confidence in him, and he leads by example,’ said Laxman.

“We have to play fearless cricket in the T20 format. The message has already been delivered to the players. However, they have been told to respect the conditions and keep situations in mind,” he added.

Laxman admitted that the shortest format needs all-rounders. “You need players who can bat and bowl, which adds depth to the batting line-up and give freedom to bowlers. The players should be multi-dimensional.”
