The legendry Viv Richards was one of the best batters during his heydays.
He is considered an idol by many leadi9ng current cricketers. Richards was renowned for his attacking batting and won several games for his country.
Richards played in an era when most of the fastest bowlers were his teammates, but a few pacers could trouble even a batter-like him.
For the legendary player, Jeff Thomson was the quickest bowler he faced.
However, he reserved special praise for a young left-arm pacer from Pakistan named Wasim Akram.
“One of the fastest balls I ever played was from Wasim Akram. It could hear the ball hitting the wicketkeeper’s gloves, and I said, ‘Wow, wow.’ Wasim was new to cricket, and I was about to retire. So I was glad that while he was coming then, I was going,” Richards told ESPNCricinfo.
“When Pakistan toured West Indies, Richards called out Akram for excessive sledging. Akram confirmed this, who admitted that he feared for his life upon seeing a shirtless Richards standing with a bat in hand.
“I told my teammates that they will have to face Wasim regularly. But, upto this day, I still see that special delivery. I have nightmares about it now and again,” he added.
