Legendary India opener Sunil Gavaskar has highlighted that Virat Kohli's batting was never impacted by captaincy.

Virat Kohli was the most trending personality on Saturday following his announcement to step down from Test captaincy. The 33-year revealed the decision on social media and thanked everyone for supporting him throughout his career. After leaving the T20I captaincy, he was sacked from the leadership role in ODIs. With another sudden call, he is no more a captain in any format.

His announcement also shocked his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma, who refused to make any comment on the possibile reasons behind astonishing call.

“It is astonishing call but I wouldn’t make any comment on the possible reasons till I know the complete picture. I can say that he has not taken this decision in a hurry,” Sharma said on India News.

Kohli leaves captaincy with India at the top in ICC Test Rankings. “Virat has made a huge contribution as a Test skipper. He is one of the most successful captains, who took his team to greater heights,” he added.
