Former Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Dillon du Preez recalled how the team’s former coach Ray Jennings told Virat Kohli in 2009 that he would become Team India’s skipper in future. He joined RCB as part of the U-19 draft picks in 2008 and was retained for the second season in 2009.
While Kohli was not sure about playing for the country on a permanent basis, Jennings predicted the right-handed batter would lead India one-day. The prediction came true as Virat replaced MS Dhoni as team’s skipper across formats.
“Virat was a young lad when he joined RCB. We could make out that he could play. I remember Ray Jennings tell Virat he will be the next Indian captain,” he said.
