Former Indian cricketer Reetinder Sodhi believes Virat Kohli’s sensational maiden T20I hundred against Afghanistan could force captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid to give the opening slot to the former captain instead of KL Rahul.

Virat Kohli took some time, but once he got his eye in, the 33-year-old slammed the bowlers to all parts of the ground. He also hit big sixes at the Dubai International Stadium and increased his strike rate towards the end of the innings.

Speaking to India News Sports on Saturday, Sodhi felt Kohli could end Rahul’s hopes of opening the batting in the ICC T20 World Cup.

“Once Virat is set, there is no way to control him. So he is the best candidate to open the innings. He can hit good balls for boundaries, which is very important at the start of the innings as you face quality bowlers against top sides. So after his performance against Afghanistan, the selectors and the management might promote him in the batting order,” he said.
