Virat Kohli, who has been with the side since 2008, had stepped down from his role after the conclusion of the 14th season in the UAE.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore haven’t announced their captain for IPL 2022. Virat Kohli, who has been with the side since 2008, had stepped down from his role after the conclusion of the 14th season in the UAE.

While Glenn Maxwell is one of the candidates, who can replace Virat, the franchise is also looking at Faf du Plessis, who was added to the team in the mega auction. Dinesh Karthik is another player who can lead the team.

However, there have been calls to reappoint Kohli as captain of the side.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra believes that RCB might go back to the 33-year old as he is not leading India anymore.

“When Virat left RCB’s captaincy, he had just left the T20I captain and wanted to lead the national team in ODIs and Test cricket. He was removed from one-day internationals and left the role in the game’s longest format. There is only one tournament where he can lead,” Aakash said on his official YouTube account.

“RCB might go back to him because the situation has changed. He will play for the franchise for the rest of his career. So, why not one more year? The association between Kohli and RCB is like MS Dhoni and CSK. It is not a bad thing. Over the past few years, RCB have performed well. They reached the playoffs in the last two years.”
