Former India pacer Karsan Gharvi said that if Rohit was not available for the game, Virat Kohli should have taken up the role for the series-decider.

India were hit hard ahead of the 5th Test against England when Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the game due to the COVID-19 positive result.

Former India pacer Karsan Gharvi said that if Rohit was not available for the game, Virat Kohli should have taken up the role for the series-decider.

The 33-year-old left India’s Test captaincy after the series defeat in South Africa, but since he was the skipper in the first four Tests, which saw the visitors take a 2-1 lead, Gharvi felt the former leader was best suited for the job.

“When Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the game due to his COVID-19 positive result, Kohli should have stepped up and said I would take up the responsibility to lead the team. Winning and losing are part and parcel of the game, but in a difficult situation, I felt Virat should have given his name.”
