Virat Kohli is currently spending time with his family and will return to action in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting on September 19. Despite being away from the limelight, he continues to make the headlines.
According to a report in Fortune India, the veteran paid 66 crore tax in the financial year 2023-24, the highest among sportspersons. Former India players MS Dhoni (Rs 38 crore) and Sachin Tendulkar (Rs 28 crore) are second and third on the list.
Sourav Ganguly (Rs 23 crore) and Hardik Pandya (Rs 13 crore) complete the top five. Kohli last played in the ODI series against Sri Lanka but failed to lead the batting charts, and India lost 0-2.
Kohli played a match-winning innings against South Africa in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados. The right-handed batter was named the Player of the Match for his effort, and he used the opportunity to announce his retirement from the shorter format of the game. Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja followed him in hanging up their boots.
With India set to play 10 Tests in a few months, Virat’s role will be crucial as Bangladesh, New Zealand (3 Tests), and Australia (5 Tests) are competitive teams in red-ball cricket. Bangladesh recently defeated Pakistan by 2-0 to register their first-ever Test series win over the rivals.
Kohli, who has struggled against the spinners in the last year, will have a lot of work to do in home games.
