Team India skipper Virat Kohli on Tuesday added another feather to his cap as the talismanic leader of the Indian team joined “Master Blaster” Sachin Tendulkar in an elite list.

After winning the Man of the Series award in the recently concluded T20I series, Virat continued his sublime run with the willow in the ongoing first ODI against England at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

After being put on to bat first, veteran openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave India a slow, but steady, start. The pair added 64 runs for the first wicket before Ben Stokes got rid off Rohit in the first ball of the 16th over.

After his dismissal, Kohli joined forces with Dhawan to add 105 runs for the second wicket. The skipper smashed an impressive 56 off 60 balls before his crucial knock came to an end in the 33rd over.

Though he failed to end his long-standing century drought, Virat overtook Sachin to become the fastest batsman, and second overall, to score 10,000 runs in international cricket on home soil.

Fastest to reach 10,000 runs on home soil

Virat Kohli – 195 Inngs*
Ricky Ponting – 219 Inngs
Sachin Tendulkar – 223 Inngs

Team India had made a few notable changes to their playing XI for the first ODI. While KL Rahul retained his place in the playing XI, Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna were handed their respective ODI debuts. Also, Kuldeep Yadav replaced Yuzvendra Chahal in the line-up.
