Virat Kohli started 2023 with a bang in international cricket. He scored the second consecutive hundred in the 50-over format.

The 34-year-old had ended 2022 with a hundred in the third and final ODI against Bangladesh.

In the first game against Dasun Shanaka’s team, he hit his 45th hundred in one-day internationals.

Kohli needs just 5 more to break Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of 49 tons in this format of the game.

Earlier, Kohli completed 12,500 ODI runs in the day. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored fifties to give India a good start in the opening contest of the series. They added 143 runs for the opening wicket.
