BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had asked players to keep themselves away from sporting events in England.

According to reports, Rishabh Pant has tested positive for Covid-19 in England. The Indians players were in the middle of a 20-day break. It has also come to light that BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had asked players to keep themselves away from sporting events in England.

However, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Ravi Shastri ignored his warning and went to attend European Championship and Wimbledon 2021 respectively. Pant will not travel to Durham for the practice match with the remaining members.

“Yes, one of the players has tested positive although he is largely asymptomatic currently. He is in quarantine at an acquaintance’s place and won’t be travelling with the team to Durham on Thursday,” the BCCI source confirmed to PTI.

Jay Shah wanted the players and support staff to avoid crowded places as seven members of England’s contingent had tested positive for the deadly virus. It had forced the ECB to assemble a makeshift squad two days before the ODI series against Pakistan. Even, some members of the Sri Lankan team had tested positive after their tour of England.
