Former India cricketer Saba Karim has backed Virat Kohli to reach the 14,000-run mark in the shortest format of the game. The 53-year-old feels that the Indian skipper is capable of breaching Chris Gayle’s record in T20 cricket, adding it would be a bit challenging for him.
Gayle recently became the first batsman in the history of cricket to score 14000 runs in T20 format. He achieved this remarkable milestone during the third T20I between West Indies and Australia at the Beausejour Stadium in St. Lucia.
The Universe Boss played a match-winning knock of 67 runs off just 38 balls and helped his side chase down the paltry target of 142 runs against Aaron Finch-led side.
When Saba Karim was asked if Kohli could breach the 14000-run mark achieved by Gayle, he said, “I feel Virat Kohli can reach there but for that, he will have to play a lot of T20 matches, he will have to regain the form he had one or one-and-a-half years back.”
“The biggest speciality of Chris Gayle is that he does not have to put in too much effort to post a big score. Virat Kohli has to take singles and doubles apart from the boundaries to score his runs,” Karim said in his latest interview with India News.
