Former India star and Sachin Tendulkar’s dear friend Vinod Kambli is facing a financial crunch and is seeking cricket assignments.
Kambli and Sachin hogged the limelight after they shared a 664 record-breaking stand in the Harris Shield trophy. As a result, they soon entered the international scene, but their careers went the opposite way.
Sachin Tendulkar needs no introduction, but Kambli, on the other hand, had to retire early.
He started well by amassing 793 runs in the first 7 Test matches at an average of 113. However, his casual lifestyle impacted his form, and soon he was out of the team.
Kambli, talking to Mid-Day, revealed that he is running out of money and desperately needs work to sustain his family. He admitted that his only source of income is the 30,000 rupees pension from the BCCI.
Kambli played 129 First class matches, and as per BCCI’s new pension scheme, he should receive 45,000 rupees.
Nevertheless, he thanked BCCI for the pension. It’s been more than 20 years since Kambli retired, and he has taken part in several reality shows for his livelihood.
He previously coached a team in the Mumbai T20 league in 2019 and was a part of the Tendulkar Middlesex Global academy.
Kambli appealed to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) for work.
“I contacted MCA for work at Wankhede or BKC. I have a family to look after. Further, I went to CIC, but they offered me an honorary job.”
He added, “I know Mumbai has retained Amol Muzumdar as their head coach, but I need work as well. I will go anywhere. “
He revealed that Sachin Tendulkar is aware of his financial crunch. He said that as a friend, Sachin has always taken care of him. He gave him a role at his Middlesex Global Academy, but there is a limit to which I could expect help from him.
“I came from a very poor family, Sachin always stood by me as a friend. But I am not expecting anything from him.”
