Venkatesh Iyer is still hoping to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). KKR bought him for INR Rs 23.75 crore in the mega auction but released him after one season. Apart from Iyer, the three-time champions also released Andre Russell (INR 12 crore), Quinton de Kock (INR 3.6 crore), Moeen Ali (INR 2 crore), Anrich Nortje (INR 6.5 crore), Spencer Johnson (INR 2.8 crore), and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (INR 2 crore).

“I want to play in the IPL, and the team doesn’t matter to players like me. I will give my best in the future. I still want to be a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders. I won one title with them, and I want to continue the legacy. I want to bring more success to KKR. They have shown faith in me,” Iyer told CricTracker.
Iyer mentioned that, if not KKR, he is open to playing for any of the nine other franchises. He is ready to contribute with the bat, ball and leadership qualities.
“If not KKR, I am ready to play for any other team. I will give my best wherever I go in the tournament. Apart from the bat and ball, I can contribute as a leader and give suggestions to the captain,” he added.
In 62 IPL matches, Iyer has amassed 1,468 runs at an average of 29.96 and a strike rate of 137.32, laced with 1 hundred and 12 half-centuries. He has taken three wickets at an average of 47.67 and an economy rate of 10.59 per over.
