Former Pakistani seamer Mohammad Amir is one of the most controversial cricketers. From being banned to taking early retirement citing management issues, Amir has often hogged headlines for non-cricketing reasons.
He bid adieu to cricket in 2020, at the age of 28. He cited his problems with the coaching staff comprised of Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis. In addition, he has issues with PCB chairman Ramiz Raja.
Pakistani fans have urged Amir to reconsider his decision, and he said that he would consider it if there is a change in the management.
When asked whether the board had asked him to return or not, he replied sarcastically.
Speaking to SAMAA TV, he said, “Mera aur Ramiz Raja ka bohot puraana pyaar hai jo khatam nahi hoga (Our relationship goes back a long way and it won’t end). It’s understandable why I took back my retirement when he (Raja) took charge.”
He further mocked Raja for not acting on his words. He shared an anecdote where he revealed that Raja had openly announced that he would leave his seat if Imran Khan left.
Notably, Pakistan witnessed a change in power recently.
Amir then stated that Raja loves his chair more than anything. “His stance doesn’t change for other people, but the rule doesn’t apply to him. If you see his old videos, he had said that he wouldn’t stay for a minute if Imran Khan left. His stance about leaving has changed now. Jaan chali jaaye but kursi naa jaye (He won’t give up his position no matter what). Kursi toh sabko pyari hoti hai. Enjoy karne dein unko (Everyone loves being in a powerful position. Let him enjoy).”
