Umran Malik hasn’t given up on his chances to play for India, and the speedster is hoping to make a strong comeback. Once touted as the future of Indian cricket, the pacer lost his place after ordinary performances and injuries. After a memorable season with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Malik failed to get going and was marred by inconsistency.
However, the right-arm pacer has shown form for Jammu & Kashmir in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He registered figures of 4-0-24-2 and 4-0-37-3 against Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, respectively.
Umran, who bowls at over 150 kmph, is confident of wearing the Indian jersey, and the bowler has added new variations to his bowling.
“I don’t feel bad, and I will come back to the Indian team as I am the only one who bowls at 150,” he told the media.
“I am working on the slower ball and the yorker. I am working hard in red-ball cricket as well,” he added.
“The rest depends on selectors. I am doing well now, and playing for India is my aim,” he mentioned.
“A bowler who bowls at 150 is a king, and he has to back himself. Not every bowler is bowling at 150 kmph. It takes guts to touch 150 kmph, and I have been doing it for five years,” he concluded.
In 10 ODIs and 9 T20Is, he has taken 24 wickets since making his debut against Ireland in 2022. He hasn’t represented India for a long time. In the IPL, Malik has taken 29 wickets, including a five-wicket haul.
