Former cricketer Simon Doull gave passing marks to debutant Umran Malik after his performance in the first ODI against New Zealand. He took two wickets and conceded 66 runs in 10 overs as the Black Caps chased down 307 with 7 wickets left.
Doull said that Malik has added control to his line and length, which was missing in the Indian Premier League 2022.
The veteran said that Malik needs to learn a lot as he has played just four List-A matches.
“It was a decent performance on debut. He was excellent and wasn’t wayward which we saw in IPL 2022. It was a good debut on a tough pitch. However, he needs to work a lot, and judging him just after one performance is not right,” he told Cricbuzz.
“He has played three List A games before the latest contest. It is not going to be easy against quality batters. I am giving him passing marks, and let’s see if he improves in the remaining games,” he added.
