David Miller was unstoppable against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
South Africa defeated India by 76 runs in their first Super 8 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The visitors posted 187/7 in their 20 overs and dismissed the Men in Blue for 111 in 18.5 overs. David Miller was named the Player of the Match for scoring 63 runs off 35 balls, laced with 7 fours and 3 sixes.
He shared a 97-run partnership with Dewald Brevis, which put the Proteas in the driving seat. Tristan Stubbs’ 44 not out in 24 balls also played a role in his team’s success. In the bowling department, Marco Jansen took 4 wickets while Keshav Maharaj got rid of three batters.
Miller was pleased with his performance.
“It is important to stick to your strengths instead of going into the shell. I though of taking on the bowlers in the powerplay overs as fielders wre inside the circle,” he said.
“I tried to stitch a partnership and also rotate the strike. Hitting straight is a better option on this ground. I hit straight. We wanted to be nice and aggressive against the spinners. They have world-class bowlers, and we have played a lot against them. We put them under pressure after putting ourselves in the position to do that,” he added.
