Tim Southee, the veteran New Zealand pacer, became the first visiting fast bowler in 41 years to take a fifer in Kanpur. After India’s strong batting display on day 1, New Zealand hit back strongly on day 2.
Southee added four more scalps to his overnight tally of 1 wicket to dismantle the hosts’ batting line-up. He took the wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara on opening day.
He dismissed the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer, Wriddhiman Saha and Axar Patel to complete his fifier.
Shreyas Iyer top scored for India in his debut Test. The right-handed batter amassed 105 off 171 balls, with the help of 13 fours and 2 sixes. Shubman Gill (52) and Ravindra Jadeja (50) were the other contributors.
