Virat Kohli’s removal from ODI captaincy has caused an uproar in cricketing circles. The 33-year old, who stepped down as T20I captain after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, wanted to lead in the remaining two formats. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) went ahead with Rohit Sharma.
Explaining the reason behind his removal, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly claimed that Virat was told to continue in his leadership role, but he turned down the request. The national selectors had no option but to give the ODI captaincy to Rohit. However, Kohli refuted Ganguly’s statement (Virat Kohli vs Sourav Ganguly), saying he was never told to continue in his role in the game’s shortest format. Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma said he was shocked.
“This is shocking, and it is also news to me that Virat Kohli made such remarks in the press conference,” he said.
He also gave his opinion on different statements of Virat and Ganguly.
“This is an unusual thing I’ve heard. I didn’t see Virat’s press conference. This communication gap shouldn’t have occurred. They should have transparency between them, and I don’t know why it happened or how to fix it,” he added.
