Dinesh Karthik was lucky when he got a huge reprieve during the IPL 2024 Eliminator between RCB and RR. Karthik was declared LBW on first delivery he faced in the 15th over of the first innings. He took a review and the third umpire overturned the decision, denying second wicket to Avesh Khan in the same over. The decision from third umpire Anil Chaudhary shocked commentators Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri.

Dinesh Karthik was sure that he was out but his batting partner Mahipal Lomror forced him to review the call from the on-field umpire. Avesh Khan, who took the wicket of Rajat Patidar on the previous delivery, hit Karthik on the pads.

The third umpire looked at replays. There was a spike when the ball passed the bat. At the same time, the bat also hit the pad. However, the TV umpire rushed into the decision and overturned the decision.

Anil said that he picked up an inside edge from the Ultra-Edge spike. However, several questioned his decision of not considering the spike arising from the bat hitting batter’s pad.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri called the decision an absolute shocker.

Sunil Gavaskar said the bat clearly hit the pad.

Eventually, Avesh Khan got rid of Dinesh Karthik, but not before he added 11 runs to his tally.

RCB scored 172 for 8 in 20 overs as Avesh Khan and R Ashwin shared five wickets between them.
