Lucknow Super Giants defeated Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets in the Indian Premier League 2024. The game was marred by a shocking run-out decision. KN Ananthapadmanabhan was slammed by Irfan Pathan and Varun Aaron for making a wrong decision to declare Ayush Badoni run-out.

On the first ball of the 19th over, Badoni and Nicholas Pooran tried to take a double. Ishan Kishan failed to dislodge the bails in the first instance and when he actually did, the batter had made it to the crease.

The decision was referred to the third umpire, who despite checking the replays and seeing that the bat was inside the crease before it went up in the air due to the impact of the diving batter, declared Badoni out.

The entire camp of LSG was unhappy and head coach Justin Langer was seen talking to fourth umpire. Even the MI players were surprised with the outcome.

In the end, the wrong decision failed to stop Lucknow from winning the match.

“It seems umpire is not aware about the rules. Once the bat is inside the crease and even if it is lifted due to the impact, the batter can’t be declared out. Umpire was wrong,” Irfan Pathan said.

Varun Aaron also questioned the call. “Umpire was wrong. Ayush Badoni was not out.”
