The three-match Test series between India and South Africa is scheduled to start on December 26. Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill and Rahul Chahar have been ruled out of the series.
Ajinkya Rahane’s poor form has made things more difficult for the visitors. He has scored 411 runs in 12 Tests at an average of 19.57 this year. However, he averages over 40 in overseas matches. Rahane has hit eight centuries outside India. These things could play a part in his inclusion for the first Test.
Bur Aakash Chopra feels otherwise With Rahul’s appointment as the Test vice-captain, Rahane’s place in not secure. “Rahul has grown in stature and is the new vice-captain in Test cricket. Rahane, on the other hand, was India’s captain in first Test against New Zealand and has now lost vice-captaincy as well. He might find it difficult to make it to the Playing XI,” said Aakash.
