Mohammad Nabi reflects on his journey in cricket, praising BCCI's support and the growth of Afghan players in IPL.
Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, who is currently playing for Dubai Capitals in the ongoing ILT20 2025-26 edition, heaped massive praise on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for helping Afghanistan Cricket. “BCCI has helped us a lot. The Indian government has built a ground in Kandahar. Most of the Afghanistan players are playing for different franchises in the IPL. There were around 9-10 Afghan players in IPL 2025. They gave us exposure, and the experience we got has helped us while playing for the national team,” he told ANI.
The veteran said that the journey has been full of ups and downs, but the team is now performing well.
“We started from zero in 2021, and it took 24 years to reach this stage. I am happy and enjoying my cricket. We have played in World Cups and even qualified for the semi-final. We will try to bring big events to Afghanistan,” he added.
Nabi mentioned that sub-continent pitches will help his team in the 2026 T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in India and Sri Lanka. “We will give our best in the T20 World Cup, and the conditions will suit our players. Many players have competed in IPL over the years in these conditions. Hopefully, we do better than the last World Cup.”
ICC is planning to expand the ICC World Test Championship, with the addition of Afghanistan, Ireland, and Zimbabwe. Nabi is delighted to hear about the new development. “It will be great to play in the World Test Championship. We will try to do well. It will be a great experience to play with the best teams,” he concluded.
