Ahead of the IPL 2021 auction, former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra has named two all-rounders Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should be targetting. CSK released the likes of Kedar Jadhav, Piyush Chawla, and Harbhajan Singh after failing to qualify for the playoffs in IPL.
The franchise will look to make some quality additions to their squad. They have a total of six slots to fill at the IPL 2021 player auction including one overseas slot and have Rs 19.90 crore to spend. Sharing his views on the same, Ashish Nehra said, barring Jadhav, CSK won’t buy any of the players that they have released.
Jadhav, who was bought by CSK for a whopping Rs 7.8 crore, was released by the franchise after a miserable IPL 2020 campaign. Nehra, during an interaction with Star Sports, feels the franchise might buy the Indian batsman back if he is available at a cheaper price.
“It is difficult but I see Kedar Jadhav as the only player they could go for. If they can get him at a lesser price as I think he was around 8 crore or so. Those things are very important. Other than that, I don’t think they will go for any of the other players they have left,” said Nehra.
Nehra added that CSK should go for either Shakib Al Hasan or Moeen Ali to fill the void left buy former Australia all-rounder, Shane Watson, , who has retired from all forms of cricket. Notably, CSK can buy just one overseas player.
“Shakib Al Hasan and Moeen Ali are the best options I see for this team. MS Dhoni likes those types of players as both of them bowl and bat. Whether they play their matches in Chennai or in the UAE, wherever it is, both these players have experience of the IPL,” the 41-year-old added.
